How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

Your air conditioner has had a lot of work to do this summer and we still have more heat on its way. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re finished with your AC for the season. Staying on top of annual AC maintenance, while also following a few other tips, can help you maintain your air conditioner while remaining comfortable too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, especially during the fall. When it comes time to rake up the leaves in your yard, make sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can hinder air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Have your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still staying comfy. Whenever possible, utilize other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to reach that temperature. You may think switching off your system completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you switch it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another contributing factor that could lead to untimely system failure.
